Coaching at VUFC

Coaching players young or old can be one of the most rewarding roles that a person takes in their lifetime. To watch a young player try something that you have shown them, coupled with the smile on their face when it works, is priceless. The feeling you get when your team wins a big game or a league title is something that others do not understand unless they have coached. There are many lows as there are highs, but the lows always fade with memory while the highs are never forgotten.

Our football club is about our coaches as much as it is about our players! Without our fantastic volunteer and paid coaches our club simply would not be here. Join our coaching family and start your coaching journey with Virginia United Football Club.

Volunteer or Advanced coaching?

Virginia United FC has over 85 teams at the club from U6 to Over 45's. This large amount of teams enables us to cater for most coaching interests. Individuals interested in coaching at our club have the opportunity to work with a number of different age categories and abilities. We provide opportunities for coaches who may just be starting out or a pathway for those with lots of experience still looking to advance their coaching abilities.

Coaching as a volunteer?

If you have an interest in coaching but no real experience then our volunteer positions are a great place to start your coaching journey. The club have volunteer coaching positions available at the start of each season across a number of teams from U6 to Over 45.

The club provide coaches with access to a basic coaching handbook and online material which gives new coaches a great insight into preparing and delivering coaching sessions for your designated team. All teams are appointed a team manager which allows our coaches to focus on their role as the coach.

Virginia United FC believe in educating all of our coaches as this helps provide a greater learning environment for our players. The club asks that all coaches take part in at least the basic grass roots Football Queensland coaching course before or during their first season as a coach. The courses are held at VUFC and the cost of the course is covered by our club. These courses are fantastic for new coaches looking for basic coaching skills and techniques.

VUFC are keen to support our volunteer coaches who are interested in further developing their skills, Football Queensland provide age specific courses which are fantastic for coaches looking to develop their ability. The Skill Acquisition Certificate and Game Training Certificate provide further coaching techniques to hep the development of players. Any coaches who complete these courses will have the fees reimbursed by the club.

Session Ideas

We always work from the FFA National Curriculum, but sometimes its good to see what other ideas are out there. You should use the NC as a base to that can be adapted to best suit the players needs that you are working with.

The sessions below are a good place to start:

At VUFC we like to make sure our coaching ideas are kept inline with global trends. Southampton FC have a fantastic reputation for youth development. The below videos from the Coaching Manual use the Southampton Academy coaches and have some great ideas for coaches looking for a little more detail in their sessions The Coaching Manual - YouTube Channel
