2027 Registrations - What to Expect

A quick reference for the 2027 season, for every member from U6 to Masters O35+: what we're working on, how registration works for junior and senior programs, and what to expect at your age or program level. These are guide dates for planning purposes - final details are confirmed closer to registration opening.

What We're Working On for 2027

Off the back of this season, we've set clear priorities for 2027, all aimed at giving every player a better, more consistent experience.
  • Investment in coaching: more structured coach development, session plans and support for every coach across the club.
  • Referee resourcing: continued investment in growing and supporting our referee base as the club grows.
  • A clearer pathway: better resources explaining how players move between community football, trials, grading and FQA.
  • VUFC Small Sided Festival: a new club event giving younger age groups more game time and exposure.
  • Community to FQA connection: stronger links between community teams and the FQA program, so pathway opportunities are visible to every player.

Junior Registration (U6-U16): How It Works

This covers registration for our junior community and pathway programs, from MiniRoos through to Youth (U6-U16). For Senior and Masters registration, see the section below.

Key dates: existing members open Monday 26 October 2026. Public registration, for any remaining spots, opens Thursday 1 January 2027. No exceptions to either date.

  • How to register: a registration link is shared via Majestri. A deposit secures your spot, with payment plans available. If fees aren't paid and no plan is in place, your spot is released after 7 days.
  • FQ compliance: once approved by the club, you must also register in Squadi and PlayFootball before your child can train or play. This is an FQ requirement, so don't leave it late.
  • Correct age group: players must register in the age group set by Football Queensland. This determines trial and grading eligibility.
  • Friend requests: submitted through the club registration form only. We'll do our best, but placement depends on team size, registration timing, grading and squad balance.
  • Teams and divisions: generally allocated by Football Queensland. We'll run a pre-season internal gala day to assess team strength and inform placement.
  • Support available: the Queensland Government Fair Play voucher can be applied at registration for eligible families.

Senior & Masters Registration (17+): How It Works

Covers Metro Seniors, FQPL, and our Masters O35+ and O45+ programs. Registration works differently to our junior pathway, with trials and squad sizes set closer to the season.
  • Metro Seniors (men and women): community-level competition. Teams train once a week and compete in Football Queensland's Metro competition on weekends. For enquiries, contact admin@virginiaunitedfc.com.au.
  • FQPL Women and Men: our premier competition teams, each with an Under 23s squad. Trials are announced at the beginning of each season. For enquiries, contact our Head of High Performance at HOP@vufc.com.au.
  • Masters, O35+ and O45+: competitive and social football for players 35 and over, across a range of divisions. For enquiries, contact admin@virginiaunitedfc.com.au.
  • Registration process: a registration link is shared closer to the season via Majestri, with FQ compliance (Squadi and PlayFootball) required the same way as our junior programs.
  • Support available: the Queensland Government Fair Play voucher can be applied at registration for eligible players.

Trials, Grading and Team Placement

This section covers our junior pathway (Division 1 trials, U13 and above). FQPL and Masters trials are covered in the Senior & Masters section above.

Grading determines which division and team a player is placed in, not whether they have a spot on the team.

  • Division 1 trials: for U13 and above, indicatively early February 2027. Exact dates will be confirmed closer to the season.
  • Grading panel: run by an independent panel of coaches and assessors, not your child's current team coach, to keep placement fair and consistent.
  • Placement criteria: players are assessed on technical ability, game understanding, physical attributes and attitude, not on trial-day performance alone.
  • Every player gets a team: grading determines which division and team a player is placed in, not whether they have a spot. Every registered player is guaranteed a team.
  • Appeals: if you have concerns about a grading outcome, there is a formal appeals process through the club. Details are provided with grading results.
  • Kit issue: playing kit is issued once teams and divisions are finalised, ahead of the season starting.

What to Expect, Every Age and Program

Every age group at VUFC has a different program shape, coaching model and pathway relevance. Here's what to expect for your child's age.

U6 to U7

  • Program: MiniRoos community football, small-sided formats focused on fun, participation and basic skill development.
  • Coaching: delivered through our PODs coaching model, run by club-appointed coaches to give every child a consistent, high-quality first experience.
  • Competition: non-competitive, participation-based formats. No ladders or results are recorded at this age.
  • Trials: not applicable at this age. Every player registers directly into a team, no trial required.
  • Kit: playing kit is not required at U6-U7. A plain shirt is fine for training and games.

U8 to U12

  • Program: Miniroos community football, small-sided formats, with a focus on touches on the ball, enjoyment and skill development.
  • Coaching: from U8, teams move from PODs coaching into a parent volunteer coach model, with session plans, workshops and model sessions provided by the club.
  • Competition: graded, small-sided competition through Football Queensland, with divisions generally allocated by FQ and supported by our internal pre-season gala day.
  • Trials: not applicable at this age. Every player registers directly into a team, no trial required.
  • Kit: playing kit is required from U8 (unlike U7, where it isn't included).

U13 to U18

  • Program: Metro Youth competition, moving toward full-sided formats and a more structured, competitive environment. Our FQ Academy Junior and FQ Academy Youth pathway programs also sit in this age range for players wanting a higher-performance option.
  • Coaching: continues under parent volunteer coaches and managers, backed by club session plans, workshops and direct support from our Head of Community.
  • Pathway: this is the age range where the FQ Academy (FQA) pathway becomes directly relevant. Community and ASP players can register interest in FQA trials.
  • Trials: Division 1 trials apply from U13 and above, indicatively early February 2027. Every player is still guaranteed a team regardless of trial outcome.
  • Kit: playing kit is required, issued once teams and divisions are finalised.

Seniors: Metro & FQPL (18+)

  • Program: Metro Seniors is our community-level competition for men and women. FQPL Women and FQPL Men are our premier competition teams, each with an Under 23s squad.
  • Coaching: Metro Seniors teams train once a week. FQPL squads train under the guidance of our Head of High Performance.
  • Competition: Metro Seniors compete in Football Queensland's Metro competition on weekends. FQPL teams compete in the FQPL competition.
  • Trials: announced at the beginning of each season. For Metro Seniors enquiries, contact admin@virginiaunitedfc.com.au. For FQPL enquiries, contact our Head of High Performance at HOP@vufc.com.au.
  • Kit: playing kit is required, issued once squads are finalised.

Masters: O35+ and O45+

  • Program: competitive and social football for players 35 and over, across a range of divisions including O35s and O45s.
  • Coaching: training on Monday nights, with games on Friday nights.
  • Competition: Football Queensland's Masters competition, with O35s and O45s divisions.
  • Trials: not required for most divisions. For enquiries, contact admin@virginiaunitedfc.com.au.
  • Kit: playing kit is required, issued once teams are finalised.
