Squirts Development Program
Welcome to the Squirts Program - Virginia United FC's introductory football program built to spark a lifelong love of the game. Here, every child gets to move, play, laugh, and grow. We're not just teaching football; we're building confident young people.
Our program is structured around age-appropriate development levels that meet players where they are - grouped not just by age, but by confidence and ability, so every child is genuinely challenged and genuinely enjoying themselves. Our coaches work closely with players and parents to make sure no one gets left behind and everyone gets their moment to shine.

Program Levels
Level 1 – (U3)
Goal: Fall in love with the game.
At this stage, it's all about fun, familiarity, and building confidence. Sessions are energetic and welcoming, designed to help little ones feel at home on the pitch.

Key focus areas:
Body awareness and balance
Ball familiarity and basic dribbling
Directional play and movement
Social interaction and participation

What players will learn:
Listening and responding to the coach and whistle
Running, stopping, and moving safely with the ball
Dribbling into open space
Kicking into large goals
Introduction to 1v1 play and playing alongside others

Level 2 – (U4)
Goal: Develop deliberate ball control and introduce early decision-making and teamwork.
Players at this level are growing fast - so are their skills. Sessions introduce more football-specific learning while keeping the game-based, joyful environment they thrive in.

Key focus areas:
Control and speed
Using different parts of the foot
Vision and awareness
Introduction to teamwork

What players will learn:
Using small and big touches while dribbling
Stopping the ball while moving
Dribbling with head up through gates and obstacles
Understanding passing intent and simple combinations
Attacking a specific goal

⚽ MiniRoos Ready – NEW for Term 2! (U5, U6 & U7)

Goal: Build ball mastery, confidence, and game sense - and bridge the way into MiniRoos football.

This is the program for players who are ready for something more. Whether your child is turning 6 this year, already playing U6 or U7 and looking for extra development, or hasn't played organised football before and wants a fun, low-pressure entry point - MiniRoos Ready is the perfect gateway.

After a hugely successful Term 1 with our U5 cohort, we're thrilled to open MiniRoos Ready to U5, U6, and U7 players from Term 2. This program is designed to build the foundations that make players feel ready and excited to step into MiniRoos competition - technically sound, tactically aware, and absolutely loving the game.

Key focus areas:
Advanced ball mastery
Accuracy and control
Basic defending principles
Small-sided game understanding and readiness

What players will learn:
Turning and dribbling with both feet
Accurate striking for goal
Moving and competing against an opponent
Following multi-step instructions
Playing small-sided games (2v2 or 3v3)

Players who complete MiniRoos Ready leave with the confidence, capability, and enthusiasm to step straight into the MiniRoos football program. It's not just a stepping stone - it's a launchpad.
