U6-U12 TSP

The Talent Support Program (TSP) is ideal for players looking for the next stage on from community football. The TSP features qualified coaches, that are also involved in our high performance pathway, that work under the guidance of our high experienced TSP Director. It is the gateway to our SAP & FQPL program.

The curriculum is very similar to our SAP program, with player parent meeting twice a year to track progress.
All players are given a detailed program blueprint upon invitation to one of the teams.

The TSP looks slightly different depending on which age category you are in. For U6 & U7 ages, all players remain which their community pathway team during the season and the TSP picks up during the off-season. Teams train twice per week. There are no trials, as players are identified by club staff during the season and invited along come season end.

For the U8-U12 teams, trials occur each season end and accepted players form a TSP team that competes in the Komodo or cross-river competitions.

How to develop

How do you raise the national standard of players graduating to play for the Socceroo’s or the Brisbane Roar?

The key is to start young and ensure the base of the skill pyramid is learned well. It’s very hard to adjust or fix techniques learned poorly in junior football, therefore it is imperative that skills are learned and developed in the right environment.

U8 - U12 is part of the so called ‘golden age of motor learning’. In this period before entering the growing spurt that goes hand in hand with puberty, children are well balanced and coordinated. This makes them very adaptive to developing motor skills (techniques) especially since this also is the brain’s key development period.

In no other development phase in life will motor learning happen faster than here. As a logical consequence of the above it makes sense that we make optimal use of this period to lay a sustainable technical foundation. Therefore it’s extremely important that we have qualified professional coaches working with players showing promise at those age categories.

The TSP has been put in place at Virginia United FC to help guide player development. The U6-U8 teams aim to ensure that the overriding focus is still on fun. We use some hidden learning along with specially adapted sessions from the U9-U12 SAP program develop the players core skills.

Who is the TSP suitable for?

Playing in the TSP at Virginia provides an environment to develop FFA target cores skills set out in the National Curriculum.

Players interested in joining the TSP should keep an eye out for the trials via our website and social media platforms. If you have questions regarding the TSP program at the club, please contact Will Petcos -  will.petcos@virginiaunitedfc.com.au

Players should trial for the program if:
  • They consistently show above average football abilities on a consistent basis in games and training.
  • Are able to commit to two training sessions per week
  • Are willing to listen and learn in the training environment.
  • Have an interest in developing and being placed in a challenging environment.
Please note that this program is not beneficial for all players. Please consider the above points before registering your child for a trial.

The TSP squads take between 10-12 players per season.

Any players deemed not quite ready will be placed in one of the clubs many age group teams.

TSPLooking to hone your skills and take your first steps onto the high performance pathway? Our Talent Support Program is here to help.

It features 5 squads, U8, U9, U10, U11 & U12 overseen by a TSP Director, that train twice a-week under the guidance of qualified and experienced staff.

This program feeds into our SAP and FQPL Youth programs and is ideal for players looking to train alongside equally skilled players, under qualified coaches following a high performance curriculum.
